Medicine Buddha药师佛
Medicine Buddha, the buddha of healing
His body is deep blue, the colour of lapis lazuli, and he wears monastic robes rather than jewellery. He sits cross-legged on a lotus throne. The right hand rests over the knee, palm outward in the gesture of giving, holding the stem and fruit of the myrobalan plant. The left holds a begging bowl of medicinal nectar.
He is traditionally associated with healing, and in the tradition he is invoked for the sick and for those caring for them. His mantra is recited on behalf of others as often as for oneself.
