BEGINNING
taken in uncertainty.
The empty hour after graduation. First day at the new company; you don't know where the coffee machine is. Discharged from the hospital, sun too bright. Divorce papers signed; standing outside the lawyer's door, no idea where to go. Every first time — exhilarating, mostly uncertain.
The first turning of the wheel was not in a temple. It was in a deer park, before five strangers. After awakening, the Buddha hesitated for weeks. 'No one will understand.' But he opened his mouth anyway.
Every great beginning starts with the step taken when uncertain. The prayer flag, the moment it is hung, does not know where the wind will carry the wish — but the flag is hung, and the wind already knows what to do. The lotus also: it does not know what the surface of the water holds, but it grows upward anyway.
The one who carried the dharma into Tibet. The original of every new beginning — into unmapped land, with only a vow.
Hand the wish to the wind. The act of beginning is the act of letting go.
Carries the jewel through the wind. I do not know where the road ends. I am running anyway.
He left India, crossed the Himalayas, faced down the local spirits, and built a new world. Every untouched land waits for someone willing to step in.
Seed Syllable — a luminous seed in the heart, beginning to break ground.
At every threshold (a move, an opening, a New Year), hang a fresh string of prayer flags.
First breath of the morning, set one intention. 'Today, I will __.'
